November 4

Good morning,

After a great day Monday, yesterday may have been one of Denny's worst to date. He also put in a very rough night, so I'm anticipating he'll get lots of sleep today.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers today, so that his rest is peaceful and, if possible, refreshing, so he is able to visit with the friends he misses so much who usually visit in the late afternoons. You have all been so incredible and I am so thankful for your dedication to the great guy I've been lucky enough to be married to.

Love always,
Carla

Hi Mr. & Mrs. O!
It's been awhile since I've talked to anyone from Xavier, but I wanted you to know that I've been following your blog quite religiously over the past year and have been keeping you both in my prayers.

I've been on active duty out in Monterey, CA since September 2008 going to language school studying Arabic for my job. I love the language, but my English speaking skills have significantly decreased :) You'll be happy to know though, Mr. O, that I've passed all three of my English CLEP/DANTES tests (for my college credits so I can get my AA in February) and I attribute my success to the skills you taught me in your classes.

I hope you are both doing well! I'd love to get an email from you when you have time so I can send you some pictures of my recent travels and time spent in California (and future travels). It's amazing what a year and a half can bring. God bless you both!
Love,
Kaitlin Worzalla

Carla and Mr. O
Ross and I want you to know that you two are in our prayers and thoughts every day. Both of you have touched us in ways you will never know. I am very thankful that Julie got to know the Mr. O that we know. There is a prayer that you drilled into my head oh, about, 19 - 20 years ago and I will always cherish it. In fact, I have drilled it into our children. The Serenity Prayer is a very powerful prayer. The two of you rock and will forever be cherished. You keep telling us about all the angels that have touched you, but the two of you are the two angles that have touched our lives. And for that, we will be
forever blesses.
Thank you.

Love,
Ross, Paula, Julie, Hank and Chad Van Dyn Hoven

Your family remains in our daily thoughts. We hope that the love of family and friends continues to surround you. We know first hand how Denny's love for his students made such a positive influence in all of their lives. And, as the saying goes, behind every great man stands a great woman. We wish your family continued strength and comfort.

Dennis and Carla:

Just happened across your blog today.

I think of Dennis often. Pray for him every Sunday at Mass as well as during the week.

He was a great role model for me during my high school days ... and beyond. Enjoyed having him as a teacher and coach.

A man of true integrity. Learned a lot about life and English for Mr. O.

God Bless you and your family. And THANK YOU for all you did for me during my time at Xavier ... and beyond.

Xavier Class of 1981

P.S. Still vividly remember watching the 1979 NCAA title game at your home with the rest of the JV Hawks. Fun times.
